Waterbury Rec Afterschool is a licensed-exempt (33 V.S.A. § 3502) recreational program for children in grades K through 6th. Children will engage in a variety of fun, enriching, and engaging activities such as sports, group games, walking field trips, and time to unwind at the end of the school day. Kids in this program will primarily be outdoors as weather permits. The program will also utilize the recreation building during poor weather and indoor group activities.
Registration is open throughout the school year. On their own, families are not able to sign up for afterschool with less than a week's notice. This restriction is due to staff scheduling, supplies, and other planning for the program. If families would like to sign up for afterschool with less than a week's notice, please email Recreation Program Coordinator Katie Mandych (kmandych@waterburyvt.com).

Email: kmandych@waterburyvt.com, email messages will reach Waterbury Program Coordinator, Katie Mandych. Each week we try to have one activity in each of the following categories:
- Nature & Art Kids will come to camp ready to spend time outside making art. This could be playing handmade instruments outdoors, building snow sculptures, or painting an outdoor mural. On days when we cannot spend time outside, we’ll bring nature into the Rec building to celebrate the outdoors and use our artistic talents. Some activities planned are leaf printing, animal track stamp-making, and making wildflower seed bombs to brighten up our parks. Campers will also have access to our art supplies to unleash their creativity.
- Science & Games! We have science/STEAM projects lined up like flour stress balls, experimenting with baking soda and vinegar, creating our own slime, and testing the speed of sound! We will also have days where we set up games for the kids to play, usually a tournament style with levels for everyone to have fun at! We will play giant checkers, build paper airplanes, enjoy outdoor obstacle courses, and build snow forts!
- Thinking Outside the Box Days! We will have a recipe project that each kid can safely contribute to making and then will enjoy for snack! Examples of the cooking projects include: banana bread, waffles, no-bake cookies, and homemade butter! We might also wrestle with puzzles, riddles, and overcoming obstacles to test our individual and team skills. Kids will try out written, verbal, and physical games, such as jigsaw puzzles and word searches.
- Explore Days! We will visit the Waterbury Fire Station, our own parks, and businesses around town! We will visit the library, explore the children's garden, go ice skating, and have sledding days. Any additional costs for a trip (ie: money for snacks, ice cream, swimming) will be conveyed prior to the trip but transportation is always covered.
- Teamwork Time! At the end of each week, we will play some games, learn different sports, practice team-building, and do teamwork challenges. In weather that does not allow us to spend much time outside, we will occasionally watch a kid-friendly movie or documentary.
*Cancellation Policy is shared in the handbook. Cancellations with less than a week's notice are not refunded. Cancellations with 7-30 days' notification receive 75% refund. Cancellations with more than 30 days notice receive a full refund.
