Chess Tournament & Family Day Events with the Scouts Register View Cart

On May16th, Waterbury Recreation and the Scouting of America Troops 701 and 711 have partnered for a day of activities. In the morning, the groups will host a non-rated chess tournament. In the afternoon, we will host an outdoor obstacle course. A hot dog lunch with be provided!

A child to participate in the chess tournament and/or obstacle course with lunch included: $10
For an adult to have lunch and/or participate in the obstacle course: $10



Chess Tournament

On Saturday, May 16, 2026 from 9am - 12pm, Waterbury Recreation and Scouting of America Troops 701 and 711 will host a Chess Tournament!

The non-rated chess tournament is open to ages 6-18 and various chess levels. The day will be an organized round robin to support novice, beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels subject to player sign-ups. The top three players will be awarded prizes. 

Cost: $10 per player (includes lunch and ability to participate in the obstacle course)

Games will be limited to 30 minutes. Individual moves will not be timed therefore not penalized with the exception of if a player intentionally waits in order to "win" the game. If a winner is not clear at the end of 30 minutes, the winner is determined by the higher number of captured pieces. 

Registration Information (chess rating, name, and contact information) will be shared with Scouting of America Troops 701 and 711 for this partner event.

Outdoor Obstacle Course


1:00 - 3:00pm
Join us for an afternoon of fun where attendees will race in an outdoor obstacle course at Anderson Park, whatever the weather. Participants should be prepared for a competition of crawling, jumping, and sprinting to the finish line. 

Event is recommended for 6 years old and up and all children must be accompanied by an adult.

*Cancellation Policy: No refunds for cancellations unless the program is canceled by the organizer.
