Waterbury Recreation Community Gardens
Registration for garden plots begins May 1 at 9am.
The Town of Waterbury is proud to offer the community gardening spots for the growth of vegetables, fruits, and flowers.
In 2023 and 2024 the South Gardens flooded during the July events resulting in gardeners forfeiting their plots, harvests, and hard work. For 2025, the community gardens will all be located in the North Gardens.
To be able to accommodate interested gardeners, plots are 10X20, 20X20, and 20X40. We will also no longer allow gardeners reserving more than 20X40 unless there are no other reservations.
To secure a garden plot, applicants are required to complete an application and pay the fee.
Gardeners are expected to follow the rules and procedures outlined in the handbook. If they do not follow the rules, gardeners could be asked to vacate their plot and may not be welcomed back in future years.
Registration for plots begins May 1 at 9am with a deadline of May 9. Gardeners will be receive confirmation of plots by May 13.
Plots that are still available will be open after May13, but will be processed one at at a time.
The town tills the land in preparation for gardening. Tilling usually takes place before Memorial Day.
The registration, application form, and payment are all included in the registration process. Choose Half, Single, or Double plots listed below and complete the registration steps. Following registration, gardeners will be contacted with their confirmed plot location/s.
Cost:
10X20: $20 for residents, $30 for non-residents
20X20: $30 for residents, $45 for non-residents
20X40: $50 for residents, $75 for non-residents
Waterbury Recreation in partnership with the Waterbury Library created the Children's Garden in 2024. The garden is a free space for children to learn about gardening, the process of growing food, composting, and more. The garden abuts the Community Garden plots. In 2025, the Children's Garden was named to the USDA's Peoples' Gardens.
Please stay tuned for learning opportunities with Waterbury Recreation and the Library.
