Steele Community Room Exhibit Application, Guidelines and Instructions

Waterbury believes that public exhibits are an enriching and stimulating part of any community. The town of Waterbury (the Town) is pleased to have dedicated space at the Waterbury Municipal Center in the Steele Community Room (SCR). The Town hopes­­ that exhibits will entertain, inspire, inform, educate, and, at times, highlight Vermont and the Waterbury area.
 
Applications must include:




  • A completed Exhibit Application online (Application Link) or by mail. PDF version attached to webpage.


  • A brief exhibitor statement or bio.


  • A brief statement explaining the exhibit with a selection of images to be hung.




Criteria for Selection
The Selection Committee* selects exhibits based on artistic quality, educational content and suitability of format for the SCR.




  • Reflects vitality, originality, artistic expression, and experimentation. 


  • If the topic is controversial, an objective presentation is required. 


  • Does not promote the partisan political, religious, or social doctrines of any single person or group. 


  • Does not promote the financial profit of any individual, organization, or commercial enterprise. 


  • Ease and cost of installation.




Exhibit Location, Description, and Use





  • The SCR is located just inside the first-floor entrance to the Waterbury Municipal offices. The room is open to the public and primarily used for community meetings and programs.


  • The STAS hanging system accommodates all wall-hung works up to 75 lbs/rail. 






  • Exhibit items must be wired and ready for hanging.


  • 4 walls and 60 +/- of linear rail


  • The exhibitor(s) may not permanently modify the exhibit space or hanging system. For example, no painting, holes, or adjustments to dimensions which alter or damage the space.


  • The exhibit space does not provide electricity and exhibitors may not tamper with or alter the space to gain access to electricity. 


  • The exhibitor(s) will be fully responsible for any damages to the exhibition space. If there is any damage to the exhibition space, the exhibitor will immediately contact Bill Woodruff, bwoodruff@waterburyvt.com, 802-839-6199.




Exhibit Schedule



Two to three exhibits are scheduled per year. Contact the Selection Committee to get on the calendar. Exhibit dates will be determined by the exhibitor and Selection Committee after acceptance. All exhibit items will remain on display for the duration of the exhibit.
 
The exhibitor(s) shall have access for installation and de-installation during the time scheduled for exhibition. The exhibitor shall install and de-install material in a timely manner. 
 
The exhibitor(s) may be limited to access of the SCR during Municipal Office open hours only, including time for installation and de-installation.
 
The Selection Committee will provide an exhibition agreement to be signed by the exhibitor and a Selection Committee representative.

Risk of Loss





  • The Town assumes no responsibility for damage, destruction or loss to the exhibit while on display, or while moving in or on Municipal Center property.




The Town does not offer insurance for any exhibit items whatsoever and cannot be held liable for loss or damage to any items.

Right of Cancelation



The Selection Committee has the right to cancel an exhibition if these guidelines are not followed or if communication between the exhibitor and the Steering Committee ceases.  The Committee reserves the right of cancellation or removal of exhibit items without notice or cause at any time. 

Copyright or Publicity



The Selection Committee reserves the right to take images of exhibits for promotional, historical, and noncommercial purposes. 
 
Sale of Artwork




  • All sales are the responsibility of the artist. 


  • Municipal staff are not responsible for collecting money or serving as liaison between artist and buyer.


  • The artist will provide pricing labels to be displayed with each exhibit piece. 




 
Applications for 2025 will be reviewed November 1, 2024.
