Spring 2024 Waterbury Rec Afterschool and Vacation Camps Register View Cart

Waterbury Rec Afterschool is a licensed-exempt (33 V.S.A. § 3502) recreational program for children in grades K through 6th. Children will engage in a variety of fun, enriching, and engaging activities such as sports, group games, field trips, homework support, and time to unwind at the end of the school day. Kids in this program will primarily be outdoors as weather permits. The program will also utilize the recreation building for homework, poor weather, and indoor group activities. Often we will travel somewhere off-campus, within 30 minutes, in the rec van to go explore.

Registration is open throughout the school year. On their own, families are not able to sign up for afterschool with less than a week's notice. This is restriction is due to staff scheduling, supplies, and other planning for the program. If families would like to sign up for afterschool with less than a week's notice, please email Recreation Program Coordinator Katie Mandych (kmandych@waterburyvt.com).

Each week we try to have one activity in each of the following categories:

  • Nature & Art Kids will come to camp ready to spend time outside making art. This could be playing handmade instruments outdoors, building snow sculptures, or painting an outdoor mural. On days when we cannot spend time outside, we’ll bring nature into the rec building to celebrate the outdoors and use our artistic talents. Some activities planned are leave printing, animal track stamp-making, and making bird feeders. Campers will also have access to our art supplies to unleash their creativity.

  • Science & Games! We have science/STEAM projects lined up like flour stress balls, making our own playdough, creating our own slime, and erupting volcanos! We will also have days where we set up games for the kids play, usually a tournament style with levels for everyone to have fun at! We will teach and play chess tournaments, paper airplane contest, outdoor obstacle course, and board game bonanza!

  • Thinking Outside the Box Days! We will have a recipe project that each kid can safely contribute to making and then will enjoy for snack! Examples of the cooking projects include: no-bake cookies, doughnut apples, rec trail mix, and frozen banana pops! We will then wrestle with puzzles, riddles, and overcoming obstacles to test our individual and team skills. Kids will try out written, verbal, and physical games, such as jigsaw puzzles, wordsearches.

  • Explore Days! We will visit the Waterbury Ambulance station, our own parks, and businesses around town! We have partnered with the library for monthly programming specific for ur afterschool kids, where we will walk over and meet Sandra the Librarian in the Steele Room for each month's activities. Any additional costs for a trip (ie: money for cider, doughnuts, swimming) will be conveyed prior to the trip but transportation is always covered.

  • Movie & Sports! Typically at the end of each week, we will have a fun kid-friendly movie/documentary. We will also have outdoor time such as skating & snow fort building!

*Cancellation Policy is shared in the handbook. Cancellations less than a week are not refunded, Cancellations with 7 and 30 days notification receive 75% refund, Cancellations with more than 30 days notice receive a full refund.
